Orchard Baptist Fellowship

New minister

Barber familyOur new minister moves into the area on 5th August, and his induction will be on Saturday 18th September 2010, 2:30pm at Cooper School. Many local dignitaries and church representatives from far and wise will be attending.

Steve and family are moving from the Isle of Sheppey in Kent where he has been minister at Minster Road Baptist Church for the past twelve years, having started there whilst training for ministry at Spurgeon’s Bible College.

Before ministry Steve was a Maths teacher at a grammar school in Rochester.  He studied Maths at University, and still enjoys discussing the beauty of the subject with anyone willing to listen!  Carolyn is a solicitor and works part time for Kent County Council.  They have three children; Emily (9), Alice (7) and Tom (4).

Steve was brought up in Alsager, South Cheshire and became a Christian aged 17 through a friend’s witness at school.  He was baptised at West St Baptist Church in Crewe.  Carolyn was brought up in a Christian family in Gillingham.

Over the years Steve has gained a lot of experience in school’s work, youth work and community involvement.  He has also been involved in pastoral support of mission workers in China through CCSM (Chinese Church Support Ministries) and has been able to visit workers in China every six months, as well as teaching at a Mission Training School in the heart of China.

Bicester and its surroundings will be a new area for the family to explore.  They are very much looking forward to working together with other churches in the town, and to sharing with the wider Baptist family in the area.  It also means a shorter journey for Steve to watch his favourite football team - Man City!
